May 7

This week we will be worked on the details for our Wire sculptures. These are almost finished and starting to look great. We can now start to finish off all of our unfinished projects.

Here is a list of project that we have done this session.

1. Candy Collage (finished)
2. Funko Pop Cans
3. Wire Hashtags
4. Photo Challenge
5. Pantyhose Sculptures

If there are enough people that complete the work we may still have time for one last quick project to do. But we will have to wait and see how things go. I believe there are still six people that are working on the Funko Pop can project still.

Don't forget to email or bring your photo for the Photo Challenge into class for me to get printed for our Art show. Email them to: stonesinc@yahoo.com or bring them in on a USB card and I can upload them.

Plus next week we have another guest artist in our classroom. Mary will be coming in to teach us all about clay. Mary will be showing us some simple techniques to make beautiful clay cabins. I can't wait to see how these turn out.

Here are this week's sketchbook winners!!

Ravenclaw's Winner

Hufflepuff's Winner

Gryffindor's Winner

And here is my shoe (plus my inspiration):

I would love Disney to create all these shoe ornaments into real shoes I can wear! Two of my favourite things in one; shoes & Disney!

Next week's sketchbook assignment is to draw a board game of any kind. But remember if you draw a deck of cards I should be able to tell by the drawing what kind of game you are playing. Here is some inspiration for you:

Let's see what you can come up with. Happy Drawing!!

April 30

I do apologize for not writing the blog for the past couple of weeks. It has been very busy around our house between band and dance. So let's catch up on what we have been up to in the Art room with Art Club.

On April 30 we started a new project with wood, wire, and pantyhose. I know it's a weird collection of items but they turn out very interesting in the end. Here is the example that sparked this project:

We started by stapling a 10' piece of wire to a wooden square block, then each student twisted and bent the wire in any way that they wanted. When they were done bending the wire into the shape they liked we covered it in pantyhose. This is when the true shape starts to take shape. They then went back to the drawing board so to speak, re-shaping the wire into a shape they found.

Some found amazing things. Here are a few things they found:

A Cobra

A Rose with petals

A Ghost

Here is my sample with just a base coat on it. At first it kind of looks like a bunny.:

And here is the finished product:

Turns out my sculpture looked more like a puppy dog.

Last week's sketchbook assignment was to create an original Super Hero Symbol. Here are the winners.

Ravenclaw's Winner

Hufflepuff's Winner:

Gryffindor's Winner

This week's sketchbook assignment was to take a name and mirror it on the page. Then find something other than a bug to make it look like. Here is a sample:

I will need to photograph the winners and post them next week. For some reason in all our excitement they photos didn't get taken.

Sketchbook homework for next week is to draw a shoe. I thought we would do something a little simple for once. You can draw any kind of shoe you would like. Design a shoe, a shoe that you love to wear, and expensive shoe you would like to own one day, any shoe you like.

April 9th

Having Tumbleweed Portraits and Photography come into the classroom was a blast. Now I get to see if my little artists learned anything from our guest artist. The assignment was to take a photo keeping in mind the rule of thirds that Angela taught us.

Here is Angela's example just for a quick reminder:

Here are a few photos that I received.

Rule of Thirds Photo Challenge

Here are the photo challenge winners:

Here is my photo for this challenge as well:

There will be more photos from the challenge to post at a later date.

As promised I have taken photos of our latest projects and can now post a few of the finished products. These are our finished Funko Pop cans:

Funko Pop! Art Cans

The Evil Queen from Snow White & the Seven Dwarves

Thumper from Bambi

Scrump from Lilo & Stitch

Cake from Adventure Time

Cogsworth from Beauty & the Beast

Bruce from Finding Nemo

Dory from Finding Nemo

I'm very proud of how our second project is turning out. The cans all look so cute. So far there are 7 artists complete and have moved on to the wire word project. There are 4 more artists that are very close to finishing as well. Artists that are not done their cans will not be able to do the wire word project at this time but there may still be time before the end of this session to do one.

Next week I will post the pics of last week's sketchbook assignment of the 4 Easter Detail pics as well as this week's sketchbook assignment. Which is for the artists to design an original super hero logo. It has to be an original symbol, nothing I could've seen before. Here are some well known super hero logos just in case you need some inspiration for a starting point.

April 23 there will not be Art Club.
Due to unforeseen circumstances there has been a scheduling conflict with a dance competition in St. Albert. So we will continue with Art Club again on April 30.

April 2

This week I would like to start by thanking Angela from Tumbleweed Portraits and Photography for coming into our classroom to teach us about the "Rule of Thirds" in composing art as well as photography.

Angela is a very talented photographer. She takes all kinds of amazing photos. She specializes in weddings, newborns, and families. Angela also does amazing mini sessions for Valentine's Day as well as Easter. If you are interested in checking out her photos, check out both her Facebook page as well as her portfolio on her web page.

Now for a unique challenge in honour of our guest artist. There will be two assignments this week. In addition to our regular sketchbook assignment (to be revealed later) I have also asked you to take one simple photo that follows the "rule of thirds" that Angela taught you this week. You have two ways to submit this photo, you can bring it with you to class next week or you can email it to me at :

stonesinc@yahoo.com

Here is an example of Angela's work that shows you an example of the "Rule of thirds".

So let's talk about this week's winners of our "morphing" sketchbook assignment winners.

Gryffindor's Winner

Time for a Change

Ravenclaw's Winner

Pepsi the Dog

And here is my "morphing" sketchbook assignment

My Sundae Hat

There will be a change in groups for this upcoming week. I had separated the group into 2 houses but have since changed my mind. We will now have 3 houses that will have a chance to win the sketchbook assignments of the week. Please Welcome Hufflepuff this upcoming week. There will be bit of a change up from the original two houses in order to accommodate the third house. The new house teams will be announced during our next class.

Now on to our sketchbook assignment for this week. I have asked the students to divide their sketchbook page into four equal squares. In each square I would like you to draw a cropped in detail version of something that you consider to be "Easter" related. Now I caution that you try not to draw something like Instagram ( I know you will be on Instagram this 4 day weekend) but unless you only Instagram during Easter then it doesn't show an Easter theme. You can chose the basics and draw a bunny, chick, eggs, etc. or you can draw something a little more original that you did for this Easter weekend.

Here is an example that was my inspiration for this sketchbook assignment:

However your sketchbook should be Easter themed!

I will be posting pics of some of the finished Pop! cans next week. Check back to see them soon.

March 19

I do apologize that I did not update the blog over Spring Break. So I will be posting two weeks on the blog but I prefer to post them separately. I will also post blog updates on my Facebook page as well.

Our sketchbook assignment was to draw an object in the shape of the letter it starts with. Here are this week's winners as well as my sample.

Gryffindor's Winner

"R" for Rapunzel

"Z" is for Zebra
(but also "E" is for elephant, "B" is for buffalo, "R" is for rhino, and "A" is for Anteater)

My example for the students

"J" is for Jellyfish

I didn't have an official plan for class as we were suppose to have a guest artist come in and talk to the class. But there was a mix up and we rescheduled for April 2. So we just continued to work on our projects that were in progress.

So we got a few more "Pop" can's finished this week, and a few more students have started to work on their wire words.

There was no regular class on March 26 as the school was on Spring Break. So back to class again on April 2 with our guest artist.

Since the students had extra time with Spring Break week off I assigned a sketchbook assignment that was a little harder. This week's assignment is to "morph" two items together. Sounds hard, unless you think about the two items as simple shapes. If both items have similar shapes they will "morph" together a lot easier. Here are two examples I showed in class for this sketchbook assignment:

Mango & Gorilla

Cow & Strawberry

I can't wait to see what you come up with!
