Year End Art Show

I'm sorry to say that at the end of the school year we were so busy that I didn't get a chance to post the photos of our Year End Art Show. Then it was such a sad time knowing that I was leaving the Art Club that I couldn't bring it to myself to post the photos. But the blog feels unfinished without posting them. So here we go.....I hope you enjoy our show!

On a positive note, I am in need of volunteering hours for Community service for a class that I am currently taking at the U of A. I am happy to say that being able to continue teaching the Art Club has been approved by my professor. So I am officially back for one more session! I look forward to getting back into the art room with all my fellow artists.

April 13th

Work is coming along quite nicely on our faux stain glass. But I forgot to take photos again. We have been so busy in class that it keeps slipping my mind until I sit down to work on the blog. So I can't promise but I hope to have the pictures for next week.

This week we started our class off with a warm up with Disney drawing. I chose a video of a Disney animator that showed us how to draw:

Pluto

Here is the video just in case you would like to draw him again.

Here are everyone's drawings.

I think you all did an amazing job drawing Pluto!

Our sketchbook assignment last week was to:

 "draw a key"

Here is what you came up with:

Beauty and the Beast Group

Finding Dory Group

Wall.E Group

Here we are telling our stories about what we drew, and why it is a "key" that is outside the box. Sometimes the stories are the best part!

And our Winners:

A Harry Potter Port Key

An Old Fashion Skeleton Key

Key Elements

Next week's sketchbook assignment is to:

"Draw a DREAM"

Here are our Adult Colouring Practice Homework:

Since the contest doesn't close until May 2 at 11:59pm you have time to add, subtract, or change anything.

All final Google Doodles for this contest will be due Thursday, April 27th, with a write up description.

If you would like to check out the contest details,

See you all next week.

March 23

Last class before Spring Break!

We are currently working on our Faux Stained Glass. Some have finished the outline and are starting to fill in our "glass" sections. I'm excited to see how quickly these are coming together.

I will post a few completed projects soon!

Last weeks Sketchbook Assignment was to"

"Draw Something That Makes Sound"

Here are the group winners:

Beauty & the Beast Group

The cranky banging shower head that makes me want to plug my ears

Finding Dory Group

Only open your Smarties under a pillow as quiet as possible, that way you don't have to share with your family

Wall.E Group

Camping is the best sound ever. No noise, just nature!

I'm impressed that you all did not just draw a musical instrument and call it a day. You all went outside the box and put a lot of thought into what kind of sound you wanted to draw. So this week I chose winners that drew unusual sounds that were important to you.

Next week is Spring Break and I'm asking you to do not one but two sketchbook assignments during your week off. First off is a colouring assignment, as this does lead into our next assignment. So each student will choose a Disney Adult Colouring page to colour. I would like you to use some of the techniques demonstrated in class to colour this page. Use different types of pressure with the same pencil crayon to obtain different colours. I'd also like to see you try to use different colours to create highlights and shadows in the same shape.  Layer as much colour as you can!

Here are a few examples:

These were found on Deviant Art, by artist Akili-Amethyst.

I have also asked that in your sketchbooks you draw a Google Doodle for their newest contest.

Where do you see Canada in the next 150 years? Can you draw that into the Google logo? I can't wait to see it....
