April 14

This week was the time to finish our silhouette paintings. Here are the artists painting up a storm....a little nervous but they are looking amazing.

Next week I will post a few of the finished paintings.

Sketchbook Winners:
This week the artists had to draw their favourite movie scene....but draw it like a 6 year old.

Here are the winners:

Team Emma:

From Disney's Up

Team Rumplestiltskin:

From Disney/Pixar Monster's Inc

Team Hook:

 From Disney/Pixar Monster's Inc

Team Regina:

From Disney's Up

I'm surprised that the artists could pick any movie to draw and the winners drew the same 2 movies, even I drew Monster's Inc. But it's no shock how much I love Disney, and my daughter looked like Boo when she was that age.

This week's sketchbook assignment is to draw a teddybear. Last week we drew like a 6 year old, so that meant little details. So this week I want to see lots of details, the fuzzy of the fur, or the stitching on the leg, or even the detail of the button eyes for examples.

Next week we will be finishing up our paintings, and start to polishing off our unfinished projects for our upcoming art show in June.

April 7

Welcome Back Artists! I hope you all had many creative days while on Spring Break. Now it's time to get back to work, as there is still lots to do before our art show in a few months.

Today we started the first part of our "Paint Nite" paintings, and we will finish them up next class. Our goal today was to complete the ombre background of our paintings and then to decide the composition and animal before next week.

We started by picking 2 colours (1 dark and 1 light) and then with a wet brush and long smooth strokes to blend them into the desired ombre look. Here are how some of them turned out.

I can't wait to see them finished.

Sketchbook homework this week was "What's in your bag?" Here are this week's winners:

Team Hook

A School Backpack

Team Rumplestiltskin

A Softball Bag

Team Regina

A Very Full School Backpack

Next week's sketchbook assignment is to draw your favourite movie scene as a 6 year old child. My inspiration for this assignment came from the board game Scene it! They have a group of movies drawn in "child's play" style that are displayed on a giant fridge. If you need inspiration maybe play the game with your family this weekend!! It's our family favourite. See you all next week!

March 10th

This week we started off with a warm up of dual hand drawing. This helps the brain think what both hands are suppose to be doing. It also makes you concentrate more on the designs. This is a great way to warm up your creative skills.

This week's sketchbook homework was to design a Team Logo for our Once Upon a Time Teams.
Here are the winners:

Team Emma

Team Hook

Team Regina

Team Rumplestiltskin will be posted next week.

Here's a picture of some of the students checking out each others sketchbook assignments. They are very competitive about this each and every week.

We are currently working on our "Artist PinWheels". And they are coming along nicely. I have finished my sample to show you:

My theme was Captain America, so I kept my colours Red, White and Blue. It does spin, but not quite as well as I would've liked. I think I'm going to continue to work on this.

Next weeks sketchbook assignment is to design a surfboard. It's been a long winter (a nice, and mild one though) and I am so ready for summer already. So lets bring a little summer into our Art Room. Check out the different styles of surfboards here on Keyo's website.

Have fun with this one, I can't wait to get started!

February 25

Welcome Back Artists!

It was great to be back in the Art room and have almost everyone there.
Our first 2 sketchbook assignments were:

1. Draw your favourite animal
Try not to get too complicated as this will tie into another project later in our session. But at the same time try not to go too average as well, it will be harder if 5 of you all chose to go with a dog.

2. Draw your favourite food
I found this one quite difficult because I love food. I narrowed it down to about 20 foods but finally decided to go with a dessert.
I will post these photos next week as we got so busy that I forgot to take the photos. Oops.

I have also revealed our teams for this session. We will have 4 groups from:

Once Upon A Time!

We have 4 teams this session to help everyone have a fair chance of winning each week.

Team Emma

Team Rumplestiltskin

Team Hook

Team Regina

We currently are working on Artist Pin Wheels! Here is where the inspiration came from:

I changed up some of the artist styles but love the idea of these!

Here are the artists & styles we will be doing:

1. Piet Mondrian

2. Romero Britto

3. Op Art (Optical)

4. Zendoodle

Then on the back we will be doing splatter artist:

5. Jackson Pollock

Each artist has to come up with a "theme" for their pinwheels then work each triangle to both artist/style & theme. These have been working quite quickly, I'm happy at how eager everyone has been to work on these. We have all kinds of themes, from music, Star Wars, Oilers, and even Emoji's.

Lastly, this week's sketchbook homework is to draw a robot.

Welcome back Artists!
I can't wait to see all my little artists again after school today. And we will have a few new faces joining us this session as well. We had 2 artists leave our group, and have 1 new artist joining us for sure, and 2 possible new artists. I guess we will know for sure at 3:30 today!!

Thank you Westlock Home Hardware!

I did however want to send out a huge thank you to our Westlock Home Hardware for asking us to be a part of A Magical Winter's Night Lantern Walk back in December.

Westlock Home Hardware has donated all 11 of the easels used during the Lantern Walk to our Art Club.

I can't wait to start our new paintings with them.

Since our new session begins today I will be back tomorrow to update about our current project, as well as what the sketchbook homework will be. Till then "Stay Creative!"

December 30

Our last sketchbook assignment for this session of Art Club was to draw a tree. Now I was hoping that the artists would "think outside the box" as this is always what I encourage as an artist. And they did a variety of different ideas. Here's a photo of all the submissions:

Here are the 3 winners:

Factionless:

Erudite:

Amity:

Now for your next sketchbook challenge.
Draw a new invention or machine.
