March 16th

Time to start a new project! Our second project is going to be:

Faux Stained Glass

I first showed the artists some of the stained glass that we saw when we went to Spain last year with our school band.

But here are a few more modern ideas that maybe a good starting point to think about.

This project was inspired by a pin I found on Pinterest, which I pinned into our Art Club board. If you are curious how we are doing this, check it out!

4 artists have made their designs and have completed stage one of this project already.

Ying Yang

Dove with Cross

Adidas Symbol

A Horse

Our sketchbook assignment last week was to draw something you can't live without. Here are our winners:

Beauty & the Beast:

3D Air

Finding Dory:

Your Heart

Wall.e:

Air or Water

I'm surprised all the winners drew inside the box. Maybe next week will be different. Next week's sketchbook assignment is to:

Draw Something that makes Sound!

Draw Something That You Can't Live Without!

March 2

Today is the last class to work on our Artist Trading Cards. If you are not finished you are welcome to work on them at home. We will be trading them first thing next class.

I know some artists have completed their cards and are welcome to start the session challenge.

Which is:

I would like each artist to participate in the session challenge at any time you are between projects. I would like you to draw something square into each box. Try to think of something that I would not have. Any square that you draw that is the same as my sheet will be eliminated from the challenge. Any square not eliminated will earn points. Artist with the highest points will win a prize. So try and get as creative as possible!

Our warm up lesson this week was 2 point perspective to draw a box.

This goes along with this week's sketchbook assignment! I would like you to:

Draw a Box!

How's that for irony! Each week I ask you to "Think Outside The Box". Now I'm asking you to draw box, but think outside of it! I wonder what you will come up with?

February 16th

Spring Art Club has begun! But I'm surprised to see less than half of my students return. To hold your spot in Art Club you will need to come see me as soon as possible.

This session we are making:

 Artist Trading Cards

Which we will be trading each other for.

Colourful flowers with a black and white background

Torn paper ice cream cones

A broken heart

Cupcake

Artist Trading Cards are mini artworks we trade among artists. But they can also be used as business cards as well.

Each student is to create a minimum of 10 to trade with other students in our club. There will also be one traded with me, which will be the one card that will be in the year end art show.

Please come up with a theme that is dear to you. Each card needs to be similar but not exact copies.

See you all again next week.

Catch Up Day

Today was the day to Catch up (Ketchup) on any unfinished projects from last session. I'm also in the middle of coming around to check in with all 15 artists to see if you will be returning this session or not. So if I haven't come to see you make sure you find me!

Here are a few photos of us working on our "String Art" project:

And here is the first one completed!! Doesn't it look great?!

Spring session of Art Club begins February 16th!

See you then......

Happy Holidays

This Fall Session of Art Club sure has gone by so fast. I know I've said that before but wow is it really December already? I guess the other projects I have in mind will just have to wait till next session.

Someone secretly cleaned the Art Room!?! But we can't figure out who? I know Mrs.B cleaned up the sink the other day but someone or someones cleaned off all the counters and cupboards. The Art Club would like to Thank whoever took the time to make the room look so nice!

After checking the calendar, our last class was suppose to be on December 22, which is the last day of school. But the High School students are on a field trip, and the Junior High students are at a dance until 3, then need to clean up afterwards. So it may be best to cancel our last class. I apologize ahead of time, since I never cancel a class.

During the holiday break in the past, my students have asked for me to give them something to do. So this year I'm giving an optional sketchbook challenge that will be due when we meet next. This sketchbook assignment is to:

"Draw Your Favourite Christmas Recipe"

 here are a few examples:

Cookie Frosting:

Egg Nog:

Peppermint Bark:

I prefer you not use these recipes but your favourite thing to eat or drink during the Christmas Season. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Enjoy your break!

A Magical Winter's Night Lantern Walk

It sure was a couple of Magical Night's at the Lantern Walk! I hope everyone came out and enjoyed the walk.

Thank you Westlock Home Hardware for hosting such an amazing family event! And Thank you for inviting both the Art Club and St. Mary School to be a part of this event.
